At the end of this activity, you will be able to appraise the display boards as learning resources according to its effectiveness in conveying messages/knowledge.
Your Tasks
Bulletin boards are the most common and readily available learning resources in any school. In this activity, you are going to observe and describe the bulletin board display of the school you visited.
To reach your goal, follow the boards below:

Look around the school for a bulletin board.
Step 2
Choose one then describe and evaluate the display.
Step 3
Propose enhancement to the display to make it more effective.
Your Tools
As you look around and examine board displays, use the activity form provided to document your observations.

Location of the school: Canitoan
Date of visit: February 06, 2014
Take note of the following and write them in your observation report.
1. Number of Bulletin Board Displays: Two (2)
2. Location of Bulletin Board Displays (BDD): Right after the gate, fronting the Principals Office and inside the classroom.
3. Describe each BBD in terms of the following:
a. The
message(s) it provides
:The board provides information of the reports of the
school’s finance office. And also from Math and Filipino subjects. They also
have the Student Supreme Government post. The BBD in the classroom were about
schedules and top notchers in class.
b. Images and
color
:The BBD were already outdated. It didn’t made an
impact to me.
c. Arrangement
of information/messages
:The Arrangement were pretty good, looks clean. But
the messages and information weren’t enough.
4. Materials used in the display
:The
materials used are plain white bond papers, and cartolina or colored papers.
5. Errors noticed, if any

:Most
common errors are in the spelling and grammar of the information.
6. Borders, if any
:Some BBDs
used borders as an additional design , and some were just plain wood.
7. Clarity of messages
:The
message though are clear enough for the high school students. It easy to
understand though some or most of the students won’t mind stopping to read the
community bulletin board near their entrance.

An Evaluation Report of a Bulletin Board
Location of the Bulletin Board Display: The BBD is located upon entering the school gate and another BBD is located inside the classroom.
Description of the Bulletin Board: Both BBDs are outdated though the posts are current. And the BBDs are located where most students and visitors pass by.
Recommendations or Suggestions for improvement
: The board is good and simple but for it more noticeable and readable, it must be well decorated with colors especially that we are dealing here with secondary students. All messages and writings must be printed clearly so that it will give students more attention to read instead of just passing by. Putting some trivia or educational information frequently is also recommended so that its purpose will not be defeated in order to be fair for those students who have visual impairments, the size of the text must be big enough for them. For the classroom bulletin boards, I would suggest that the students are the one who would design the bulletin boards. Because in my old school, we were the one who designed and materialized our bulletin board. And every month we would change its theme.

: As what I've observed the board design doesn't raise the target audience interests. It was dull and outdated.
Use of language in making the target audience's understanding of the information.
: They use English as their language in making the target audience understand about the information. Their use of the English language was very understandable, aside from the finance report. Secondary students doesn't even bother to read the finance report/s.
The intention of the Board Display
: The main intention of the board displays are for incoming activities and latest information.
Your suggestion
: I suggest that they would also take time to decorate their bulletin boards. What is the use of the bulletin boards if the children won't even take time to read what is posted.
