YOUR TOOLS

School visited: Xavier University High School
Date of visit: January 2014

An Observation Guide for a Learning Resource Center
  I. Make an ocular visit and take note if why the following are present in the school:
  • Media Center
  • Computer Room
  • Library
  • Internet Facililties
  • Learning Resource Center

III. Are there any guidelines on the use of the resources and facilities?
IV. Take some resources/facilities in the school.

After your observation make a written report on the resources/facilities that you have seen in the school. Classify such resources by filling up the matrix that follows.

IMPRESSIONS: Students today are  lucky to have these technologies and available for them to use in school. Unlike 20+ years ago.

Your Analysis

1.    How are the materials arranged? Are they classified according to their functions and characteristics? Relate your observations here.

Answer: Honestly, because of the new K-12 program, the XUHS in Lumbia have to be renovated, that is why they moved to the Xavier University Main Campus. The guidance counselor I’ve talked with said that she was sorry because I can’t have what I came for.
I’m going to based my study when I was still studying in XUHS Lumbia before. The materials were arranged in our Learning Resource Center (LRC). There is someone in-charge and only he can handle all the equipments, aside from the borrowers.

2.    Are the guidelines in place to facilitate access of the teachers to these resources?

Answer: Yes, there are guidelines taped on the borders/book cases around the area and not just for the teachers but also for the students.

3.    What are the strengths of the resources?

Answer: The resources were easy to use and is very useful in learning. Large realias were there so it is very clear and big enough for the students to identify parts and everything about it especially in science where they asked to identify parts of the systems in the human body.

4.    What are their weaknesses?

Answer:The materials are so fragile that there some materials which are only for visual purpose and students are not allowed to touch or hold so that it will not break.some books on the library are outdated that some ideas there might change as time goes by.

5.    What do you suggest to improve the resources?

Answer: The resources itself improves as time goes by, I think the most important thing here is in how to preserve and take good care of these resources, especially those that are not heat resistant and are fragile.

Your reflections

1.    Which of the materials have caught your attention most? Why?

Answer: The material that caught my attention most will be the LCD projector in the AVR. Though it was already available during my high school days, it was pretty much expensive and I wasn’t as much teachie before.

2.    Which gadget/equipment are you confident to use operate?

Answer: I’m more confident to use the LCD projector because I can discuss my lesson or report easier, faster and more entertaining.

3.    Which equipment do you feel you need to learn more about?

Answer: I believe I still need to learn more about computers and its new/improved programs. I’m a little bit stock to the basics.

4.    In what way do you think will think you learn to operate such equipment?

Answer: For me, ask questions to the people who knows more and practice.
